PRESS RELEASE: 14/09/2014 RE: Bristol Muslims Condemn the Brutal Murder of David Haines Many of us will be reacting with revulsion to the news of the murder of British aid worker David Haines and we will all be feeling a sense of outrage, numbness and anger at his killing. Bristol’s Muslim community along with the rest of the country condemns this sickening act of murder. This is an attack not just on one British citizen but an attack on us as a nation. Our thoughts, prayers and condolences are with David’s family and friends at this difficult time and we pray they find the strength and courage to deal with this tragedy. David Haines like other brave aid workers travelled to the region to help people in desperate need. Despite his humanitarian efforts, the fact that the so-called “Islamic State” chose to kill him and other innocents in the past regardless of race, religion or creed, highlights the perverse and warped nature of their ideology, which is not Islamic in anyway. Muslim Scholars across the world have proclaimed that the group calling themselves the “Islamic State” are nothing of the sort and that in reality they are a gross perversion of the teachings of the Islamic faith and a group of murderous criminals. No doubt again as a nation we face a challenging period and this incident will heighten community tensions but at times like this as before we need to tap into our national spirit and stand firm together united as individuals, communities and as a nation to maintain calm to ensure that the actions of these evil people do not succeed in dividing us. We must all be vigilant at this time and urge the authorities as well as community leaders from across the board to calm tensions that may arise. It’s also now a time for all of us as a national and global community to make a firm stand against the warped teachings and actions of this terrorist group.
