PRESS RELEASE 25th September 2014 MEDICAL PRACTITIONERS NEEDED AS VOLUNTEERS. The 2015 Pacific Games Medical Committee is looking at engaging two hundred volunteers to assist the Committee to run medical services during Games time in July next year. Chairman of the Committee Professor Tefuarani who is also the Executive Dean of the School of Medicine Health Services at the University of PNG and President of the Medical Society of PNG has called on medical practitioners in the country to voluntarily provide support to the Committee as it maps out a strategy on how best it will provide medical services to athletes, spectators and visitors during the Games. Professor Tefuarani says the Games Medical Committee is made up of very qualified doctors in the country who are working to ensure the best medical services are provided to everyone during the Games. “We have already sent word out that we are looking for volunteers through the recent medical symposium. The 2015 Pacific Games is a national event and we would like those in the medical profession to support us during the Games”. Other key members and groups of the Committee include Dr Bernie Amof, Dr Gideon Kendino, Dr David Inaho, Dr Lucy John, Lydia McCarthy Pulotu, Dr Michael Wilson, St Johns Ambulance, Port Moresby General Hospital, NCD Health, The National Department of Health as well as a number of private organizations. The 2015 Pacific Games Medical Committee will oversee a large and diverse team that will ensure that a whole host of services such as first aid, sports medicine, diagnostic services, emergency care, and public health planning and prevention are delivered to athletes as well as spectators and other important guests.
