PRESS RELEASE € 267m invested to strengthen the role of nature in Paris 2020 18/12/2014 The Paris Executive will invest 267 million euros by 2020 to green areas, nature and biodiversity. By developing a proactive policy of vegetation, it will improve the living conditions of the inhabitants, while participating in the fight against climate change. According to the roadmap entrusted by Penelope Anne Hidalgo Komitès, Assistant to the Mayor of Paris, the investment program of the mandate will allow to make Paris a greener city and to effectively meet the environmental challenges. Paris mobilize € 123 million for biodiversity and greening the city, 124 million for the maintenance of wooden, parks, gardens and 12 million euros for Parisian cemeteries who will see their conditions improved reception, especially with the creation of a funerary complex. The nature of the city will invest wherever possible, including by planting 20,000 trees and the creation of 30 hectares of new green space, which will be designed for new uses with the evolution of settlement of parks and gardens. By 2020, Paris will have 100 hectares of roofs, facades and green walls. One third will be dedicated to the production of fruits and vegetables, thanks to € 8 million spent on urban agriculture. They will promote the emergence of a new economic model, more respectful of the environment. With the relaunch of biodiversity plan Paris will also afford to hire in 2015 - the year it will host the International Conference for Climate - a virtuous process of struggle against climate change. In addition to environmental issues, the investment program of the mandate turned to the people: it will be a real vector of living together in Paris and strengthen social bonds. The development of vegetation will be illustrated throughout the public space: greening of large squares, creating green streets opening to the walk of new sections of the Little Belt or creation in 2015, 200 points of vegetation resulting from the call for proposals from green near me led in recent months. The investment budget will also implement awareness raising biodiversity and respect of nature, with the establishment of orchards and vegetable gardens in schools and the pursuit of creating new educational gardens and insertion. These important investments will be directly enriched by the proposals of the Parisians, in the participatory budget. For its first edition, residents have identified two such projects will be launched in 2015: the creation of 40 green walls and renovation of more than thirty kiosks in green spaces.
