PRESS RELEASE! Award Winning Author Behcet Kaya Transports Readers to Ancient Turkish Culture In a Modern Day Romance Novel Part romance novel, part travel guide, part historical dissertations and part suspense, “Road to Siran, Erin’s Story” is all entertainment. DECEMBER 16, 2013: As seen through the eyes of Erin Ozcomert, a young, beautiful graduate student at UCLA, readers are swept from modern day Los Angeles to the ancient customs, civilization and heritage of an area in Northeastern Turkey, Siran, by the Black Sea, ruled for centuries by the Ottoman Empire. Written as a sequel to Voice of Conscience, Behcet Kaya demonstrates extraordinary storytelling by using experiences from his past and combining it with granular research. “Mostly first first-hand knowledge, as this is my homeland,” Kaya discussed during an interview with Pacific Book Review. “I have driven the road from Erzincan to my village. Atamkoy, although a fictional name, is based on my village.” The description of the Sultan’s Palace and the practices of the Harem and concubines are incredible. “As far as the chapters on Topkapi,” explained the author, “I had a friend in London who was doing his masters and he went back and became the director of Topkapi.” Kaya continues, “Later, when I met him in Istanbul, he invited me to visit Topkapi. I told him I had already seen everything there was to see and his reply was, “You and the rest of the world have not even seen one tenth of what is here.” Through conversations with him and research, I was able to put together those chapters. As to the other sights in Istanbul, I have visited them many times.” Road to Siran, Erin’s Story, although written as a sequel to Voice of Conscience, this novel stands on its own for those joining the series with enough of a storyline foundation written to bring new readers current with the cast of characters. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Born in northeastern Turkey, Behcet grew up in a very small village with long held traditions. Defying his father, Behcet left home at fourteen and traveled first to Istanbul and then on to London. He made the move to the US in 1976 and became a US citizen in 1985. Living in Atlanta, Georgia, he followed his creative yearnings and attended the Alliance Theatre School and studied at the SAG Conservatory of Georgia, which earned him his Screen Actors Guild card. In 1994, Kaya and his wife moved to Los Angeles, where he continued his studies at the Roby Theatre Company and the Shakespeare, A Noise Within, Theatre Workshop. Along with acting, writing became a natural outlet. In addition to his three novels, Voice of Conscience, Murder on the Naval Base, and Road to Siran, Erin’s Story, Behcet has published numerous short stories and is currently working on his fourth novel, Body in the Woods.
