PRESS RELEASE Contact: Sergeant David Bedrosian Traffic Safety Unit Supervisor Office: 732-262-1143 Fax: 732-262-1125 dbedrosian@brickpd Release Date: Monday, October 13, 2014 Release Time: 2300 hours Reference: Struck Pedestrian Hit and Run Crash FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Incident Date: Monday, October 13, 2014 Incident Time: 1945 hours Incident Location: Hooper Avenue (C.R. 631), 600 feet south of Brick Blvd. Driver #1 Vehicle #1 Name: Hit and Run See narrative Age: Town: Injury: Pedestrian #1 Name: Hispanic Male Age: 35 Town: Brick, NJ Injury: Head trauma, internal injuries. Details: Pedestrian 1 was crossing Hooper Avenue in the area of the Outback Steakhouse when he was struck by a vehicle proceeding southbound. The impact occurred in the right lane of Hooper Avenue, approximately 600 feet south of Brick Blvd. After impact the pedestrian came to a final rest along the west curb line. The vehicle continued south on Hooper Avenue after the impact and left the scene. Witnesses described the hit and run vehicle as a dark-colored sedan. The hit and run vehicle may have sustained damage to the right front fender and possibly the hood area. Officer’s Charles Kelly and Frank Mauro were the initial arriving units on scene. Several other police units later arrived to assist and set up the closure in the area of the crash. The Brick Township Police Department’s Emergency Medical Services along with MONOC Paramedics responded to the scene. The pedestrian was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, where he remains hospitalized. Detective George Waldhelm of the Brick Township Police Department’s Identification Bureau also responded to assist. The southbound right lane was closed in the area of the Outback Steakhouse for approximately 2 hours due to the investigation. Sergeant David G. Bedrosian and Officer Jay Lampiasi of the Brick Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit responded and are conducting the crash investigation. The cause of the crash is pending further investigation at this time. The pedestrian’s identification is being withheld at this time pending notification of family.
