PRESS RELEASE Date: July 4, 2014 Release Authority: Commander Geoff Huff Ames Police Investigate Hit and Run Accident on Highway 30 At approximately 3:48 P.M., the Ames Police Department received a call of a serious accident on Highway 30 in the eastbound lanes at about the Duff Avenue exit. Responding officers found a silver 2003 Ford Explorer off the roadway that had flipped several times. The driver of that vehicle had serious injuries and was transported to a Des Moines hospital. No further details on his condition are available at this time. Two passengers in the vehicle had minor injuries. Officers determined that the suspect vehicle, described as a dark-colored SUV, left the area. A suspect vehicle has been located, and officers are conducting an investigation into the cause of the accident. No names are being released at this time because officers are in the preliminary stages of the investigation. A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
