PRESS RELEASE: Fatality Accident On August 11, 2014 at around 4am, the Springdale Police Department received a 911 call of an accident at Meadow & Commercial. Upon our arrival, we located a white 2005 Chevy Trailblazer on its top in a nearby parking lot. The investigation revealed that the Trailblazer was traveling westbound on Meadow, lost control around Commercial and appears to have rolled several times. Initial statements said the vehicle had 5 occupants. The driver was identified as 20 year old Gustavo Escalante. Gustavo was wearing his seat belt, sustained no injuries, but was later charged with Driving While Intoxicated. At least two of the passengers were ejected from the vehicle. One 18 year old male was pronounced dead at the scene. A second young female was transported to Washington Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. The remaining two passengers both fled the scene, but were later located, only sustaining minor injuries. After further investigation and discussion with the prosecutors office, Gustavos charges have been upgraded to Felony Negligent Homicide and Felony Battery 2nd Degree. The investigation is still ongoing, and more information will be released when it becomes available.
