PRESS RELEASE Global Solidarity- AS UN MEMBER States ANNOUNCE MORE Support to Fight Ebola New York-25th September 2014, United Nations Members States have pledged more support towards combating and Eradicating Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) which has claimed thousands of lives and posed threat to economic stability of the affected countries in the West African sub-region. The pledges were made today at the High Level Meeting organized by the UN Secretary-General under the theme Response to the Ebola Virus Disease outbreak. President Sirleaf who addressed the audience through the Video link, said that even though it has taken the international community some time to fully appreciate and adequately response to the enormity of the countrys tragedy, Liberia was grateful for the contributions being made by partners in this difficult time. She said that Liberians with the support of partners will spare no effort in ensuring that the Ebola crisis is brought under control. She pointed out that the international solidarity has given the people of Liberia a renewed trust in the value of partnership. She then expressed thanks and appreciation to those who have stood by Liberia during this difficult period . For his part, US President Barrack Obama, urged Members States to do more to support the Ebola affected countries in order to arrest the spread of the diseases. He emphasized that the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) was a threat to international peace and security. As such , He called for a more robust international response. Adding that the world is not moving fast enough to tackle the crisis. He noted that no single country has the ability to prevent the Ebola crisis and therefore, the international community has the moral responsibility to act swiftly in concert to stop the further spread of the disease. In addition to providing logistical and expert supports to assist the affected countries, the France Government has announced $70 million Euros towards the fight of Ebola, Japan $40 millions, Namibia $1 million China $2 millions, and the world Bank $4 millions. At the same time, the UN Secretary- General Ban Kin Moon has informed that over 400 hundreds health specialists (volunteers) have registered to join the global efforts to assist the affected countries, while Germany announced that it was sending in 2000 volunteers to help countries in the region to fight Ebola. Meanwhile, the Government of Cote devoir, through its President Alassane Ouattara has announced resumption of air Cote dIvoire flight between Liberia and Sierra Leone in early next week.
