PRESS RELEASE: INDIANAPOLIS TORNADOS PARTNER WITH THE PAFL FOR 2015 Release Date: 10/3/14 (INDIANAPOLIS)-- The Indianapolis Tornados are pleased to announce their decision to join the Premier Amateur Football League (PAFL) for the 2015 season. For the last four seasons, the Tornados have been an elite member of the GridIron Developmental Football League (GDFL) where they enjoyed consistent success and a regular season record of 37-3. In the playoffs, the Tornados made the “Elite Eight” each of the four seasons and the GDFL’s “Final Four” in 2012 and 2013. “We have a lot of respect for what (GDFL Commissioner) Charles Thompson is trying to accomplish with his league” acknowledged team president, Evan Triggs. “At the end of the day, it comes down to a business decision and we believe this decision is best for the financial longevity of the franchise”. The PAFL consists of 24 teams all located in the Midwest which allows the Tornados to reduce travel costs for both players and the team. However cost wasn’t the only factor. “We looked at four key factors: 1) What is best for the team financially? 2) What is best for the fans? 3) What is best our players? 4) What is the quality of the competition?” explained assistant General Manager, Dave Seiter. For players who don’t receive any compensation for playing, distant travel and scheduling long periods away from family or work is problematic. This move will likely draw even more elite talent to the team because extended travel will no longer be a major issue for players. The move will also allow the Tornados to renew their rivalry with the Columbus Fire and challenge other former GDFL teams such as the Columbus Gladiators and Ohio Golden Knights. However, the Tornados have their eyes set on the PAFL’s 2014 Champions, the South Buffalo Celtics, who withstood a last second touchdown drive to beat the Tornados in the GDFL’s Impact conference championship game in 2012. “We already know many of these teams from our time in the GDFL” observed Mr. Triggs. “We will rekindle some old rivalries and start new ones. I honestly believe the fans are going to enjoy the quality of our opponents in this league”. That doesn’t mean the Tornados have completely turned their back on the GDFL. The PAFL’s eight-game regular season schedule allows the Tornados to independently schedule other games over the summer to test their might against the best teams around the country. “We certainly have the utmost respect for teams within the GDFL and look forward to scheduling any team that is willing suit up against us” challenged Seiter. “The Tornados have never backed down from a challenge”. For the fans, next season will bring in some of the finest talent from neighboring states. The team will announce its 2015 schedule in the spring with the 2015 season kicking off in May.
