PRESS RELEASE JOZI FM 08/07/2014 JOZI FM STATEMENT 1. It will be recalled that following the death of Rachel Dolly Tshabalala almost a week ago, Jozi FM called on Donald Sebolai; a DJ working at Jozi FM at the time and subsequently wanted for questioning in connection with the death, to hand himself over to the authorities. 2. We are relieved to learn that this morning and in Soweto, Mr. Sebolai was arrested by the South African Police Service. Mr. Sebolai’s apprehension offers him the opportunity to account for his alleged actions and provide answers to questions that have lingered in many minds since the news of this regrettable incident broke out. 3. We note that the arrest followed a tip-off from a member of the public. While it is regrettable that Mr. Sebolai did not hand himself over as requested, we express our gratitude to the members of the public who have throughout this protracted hunt provided the police with leads. This sends a powerful message of what can be achieved when the community and the police co-operate. This should be a lesson to all that our community will not harbour and does not have room for those alleged to have committed crimes regardless of their social status or fame 4. Without being judgmental, we fervently hope that the authorities will move with speed to bring the matter to trial and finality. The friends, families and loved ones on both sides deserve nothing less. Jozi FM remains committed to supporting victims, friends and families of all those who have borne the brunt of the scourge that violence against children and women has become. In the days ahead, we will continue to highlight the debilitating effects of this scourge on our society at large through our programmes and outreach campaigns. __________________ Released by MPHO MHLONGO JOZI FM 2014/07/08
