PRESS RELEASE: KWHA MEMBERS VISIT SOUTH AFRICA The Speaker of the kwara State House of Assembly Barr. Razak Atunwa says the Overseas Legislative Study Tour embarked upon by the Legislators was aimed at ensuring peer review mechanism to further enhance legislative performance. Barr. Atunwa gave this indication when he led some members of the State House of Assembly on a foreign legislative tour to Johannesburg and Cape Town in South Africa. The Speaker explained that the foreign legislative tour had afforded Members the opportunity to juxtapose legislative processes and procedures among Nations and States. Barr. Atunwa who described Legislature as the bedrock of any sustainable participatory democracy expressed confidence that the Study Tour had equipped Members on the best legislative practices thereby helping the Legislative body to create better platform for improved performance by the Executive arm of government. The Head of Public Education Unit of the Parliament of South Africa Afau Rahman Ibrahim had enumerated the activities of the South African Legislative bodies. He explained that the parliament encouraged public participation for parliamentary processes to ensure enactment of people oriented and enduring Laws. He rejoiced with the South African Government for the peaceful conduct of its election and successful inauguration of its parliament. It would be recalled that the first batch of the law makers led by the Deputy Speaker Prof Mohammed Gana Yisa had earlier visited the Georgian State Senate in the United States of America in which resolutions were passed by the senate commending the State House of Assembly for its immense contributions to the sustainable of democracy in the Country.
