PRESS RELEASE MAN GETS ELECTROCUTED IN A VANDAL ATTEMPT A man identified as Curtis Mumboto aged 32 years, of house number 21 Mikonfwa, Luanshya has been electrocuted in Chingola Central as he was attempting to vandalize looping cables on a ZESCO pole mounted transformer. It is believed he was not alone and he had already cut one cable when he got electrocuted. This happened in the early hours of Monday, 11th August, 2014. The matter has been reported at Chingola Central Police Station who have since commenced investigations. “ZESCO has continued to lose revenue in vandalism of its infrastructure to a tune close to two million Kwacha during the year 2013, and the figure will continue to rise if the scourge is not curbed,” said Mrs. Bessie Banda, Senior Manager Marketing and Public Relations. ZESCO Limited wishes to reiterate the dangers of vandalism to the general public that it does not only cost the Corporation revenue, cause power outages, compromise the integrity of the entire electrical system, but also that the act of vandalism is an offence and therefore prosecuted by law in addition to being fatal. ZESCO is appealing to the general public to therefore desist from vandalism activities which deter development in the electricity sector and also to report such acts to either ZESCO Limited or the Zambia Police Service. -Ends- ISSUED: 11/08/2014 BY: MARKETING & PUBLIC RELATIONS DEPARTMENT CONTACT: +260 362341/+260 362576/+260 362573/+260 362575
