PRESS RELEASE NEW Delhi 2nd July2013-07-02 Welfare party of India is considering all legal options to get the West Bangal Panchyat elections to be deferred till the end of Ramzan. Supreme Court today rejected a petition in this regard filed by the Welfare party of India, Association of downtrodden and Muslims (ADAM) jointly with state govt. and others citing the constitutional reasons. Dr T A Rehmani National sec of WPI and petitioner in this case said constitution of holding Panchyat elections before completion of 5 year term has been violated by the state govt. and state election together taking up legal and security concerns. People of West Bengal in general and Muslims in particular can not be punished for the conspiracies, misdoings and constitutional violations of state machinery. Right to worship and right to franchise together has to be protected as they are fundamental rights of the people of India. One right can not be sacrificed to get other rights. Dr Rehmani said Welfare party will consider going to full bench of supreme court through a curative petition to get justice and to see that 30% population of west Bengal is not denied their right to vote and taking part in the electoral process. Party will also go to the election commission of India with a demand to frame rules and make clear criteria as to how to fix the dates of various elections in the country.
