PRESS RELEASE November 21, 2014 PMA cadets perform silent drill exhibition in Tarlac City By Jason Mamawal TARLAC CITY (CIO)- A 173-cadet members of the Sinaglahi Class of 2015 of the Philippine Military Academy, Fort Gregorio Del Pilar, Baguio City performed a silent drill exhibition at the Tarlac City Plazuela on November 21 as a part of their Community Development (CD) Field Practicum. Before the exhibition, Lt. Col. Lope Domingo Jr., head of delegation, together with Director of the Community Development Course, Dr. Bernadette Escobar, 1st Class cadet James Estoesta and Lt. Col Julius Miranda of the Northern Luzon Command paid a courtesy call at the Office of the City Mayor. They were welcomed by Vice Mayor Anne Belmonte who represented Mayor Gelacio R. Manalang together with City Councilors Glenn Troy Caritativo, Jojo Briones, Topey Delos Reyes and Frank Dayao. As a sign of gratitude to the host city, the PMA officials handed over a Certificate of Appreciation to the city government for the warm welcome as well as to the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office for assisting them in the conduct of their earthquake and fire drill in Balete Elementary School and Balete High School Annex on November 20. Belmonte likewise thanked the delegation for their visit and organizing such activity in the city. After the courtesy call, the guests and the city government officials proceeded to the plazuela to witness the exhibition. The cadets showcased their skills to hundreds of spectators demonstrating their routine in formation and marching as well as the capabilities, tasks and expertise of every member of the different units of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) such as of Scout Rangers and Special Forces Team. There were also exhibits set-up by the different branches and units of AFP such as the Philippine Air Force, Philippine Army, Philippine Navy-Naval Forces Northern Luzon, Northern Luzon Command, 710th Special Operations Wing in the covered court of the plazuela featuring through photos the developments in the military, accomplishments and some of their missions in the communities. Tarlac City Police Station also put-up a booth for the exhibit. Domingo thanked the city government for granting their request to host the activity, noting that the activity’s purpose is to develop the ability of the cadets in multi-sectoral engagement, inter-agency partnership and community organizing for disaster response and resiliency and also in order to encourage the citizenry to join the ranks of the AFP.
