PRESS RELEASE OFFICE OF THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, AFRICAN YOUTHS INITIATIVE ON CRIME PREVENTION, AYICRIP 2014 NATIONAL YOUTH SUMMIT ON CRIME PREVENTION AND AWARDS. We wish to use this medium to inform you that, the Africa Youths Initiative on Crime Prevention in partnership with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Youth and Student Matters will be hosting the 2014 National Youth Summit on Crime Prevention and Awards in support for the fight against insurgency, terrorism and other related crimes in Nigeria. Over the years, our great country, Nigeria, has experienced immense security challenges as a result of the activities of insurgents and other criminals which have continued to threaten the lives and properties as well the economy of the nation. This challenging situation has therefore informed our decision to fight crime through preventive approach by putting up the above mentioned Summit. The summit is designed to bring about 500 Youths across Nigeria together for the purposes of educating them on the dangers and repercussions associated with getting involved in criminal activities. Youths will have the opportunity to interact and share ideas on crime related issues, their roles, experiences, challenges as well as get information on the best way of gathering information in support of security intelligence in Nigeria. The Summit will also feature the Annual Crime Prevention Ambassadors Awards. The Award is an annual event designed to recognize and celebrate those Nigerians, non Nigerians, Organizations and Institutions who have exhibited great sense of ingenuity, leadership dexterity and are at the forefront of youth development and crime prevention activities in Nigeria, Africa and the World at large. The award salutes exemplary Ambassadors who have contributed towards the creation of a conducive and crime free society through youth development and empowerment programmes and initiatives. It also serves as a motivation to the awardees to continue with their good works and as well, a challenge to other members of the society towards improving their social responsibilities in the area of youth development and crime prevention.
