PRESS RELEASE ON THE CURRENT SITUATION IN YEMEN The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is monitoring closely the current situation in Yemen, particularly the recent protests and clashes between the rebel group, Houthis against the Government of Yemen especially in strategic areas controlled by the Yemeni Government across the country. At present, the Embassy of Malaysia in Sana’a confirmed that all Malaysians mostly students in Yemen are safe. About 440 students (357 males, 45 females, 33 children) from Shamlan and Mazbah area have been placed at a temporary building provided by the Embassy of Malaysia in Sana’a. In this regard, the Ministry and the Embassy of Malaysia in Sana’a are advising all Malaysians in Yemen to be extra vigilant and to take all necessary precautions for their personal safety by avoiding high risk areas and large public gatherings to avoid any untowardly incidents. As the current security situation in Yemen remains fluid and uncertain, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to advise all Malaysians to avoid or postpone all unnecessary travel to Yemen. The Ministry also seeks the cooperation of Malaysians who are still in Yemen to register with the Embassy, if they have not done so.
