PRESS RELEASE ON THE RECENT GERMANY TRIP Ladies and gentlemen, I welcome you to this important function that aims at communicating to the people of Vihiga County the strategy that my County Government is taking to bring positive change into the lives of its people. For the past two weeks, I led a delegation of officers from the county to meet Germany business communities, institutions and investors. The conversations and meetings held centered on creating partnerships and business ventures for mutual benefit. In this respect, I take this early opportunity to share with you the products of my trip to Germany by narrowing down to the following sectors; 1: Education-The County’s Vision is to create a free, secure, just and prosperous society with a strong and highly skilled Human Resource that will spur economic growth and social development as a means of empowering the people. In this regard, Wildau University has agreed to; i. Enter into Partnership with Kaimosi Friends University. This Partnership will see Wildau University assist Kaimosi Friends University establish Engineering Programs and Training that will eventually offer Aeronautical Engineering. This will see Kaimosi Friends University offer practical courses that bridge the gap between theory and practice. ii. Grant Vihiga County 5 Scholarships in Engineering. iii. Help Kaimosi Friends University to access funds for Training and exchange programs. Similarly, the Germany for Africa will help Vihiga County construct and equip Vocational Training institutions (Polytechnics) 2: Health-Our health facilities are inadequately equipped to provide good health care services to our people. To address this; i. The Germany for Africa Organization will help Vihiga County to mobilize resources and equip Hospitals. ii. The organization will also help in the construction of hospital buildings with the help of Germany Engineers. 3: Frankfurt Chamber of Commerce-Vihiga County Government has negotiated for a working partnership with the Frankfurt Craft Chamber of Commerce to; i. Build the capacity of Vihiga County Chamber of Commerce-to be active and operational in order to meet the demands of the growing County economy ii. To develop training programs that will impart entrepreneurial skills such as Masonry, Engineering, Carpentry, ICT, Plumbing, Building and Construction, Printing, Metal work and many other self employment trades. To achieve this, the chamber will also help us train our Trainers of Trainers (ToTs). 4: Strausberg Chamber of Commerce (IHK)-Strausberg Chamber of Commerce will work with Vihiga County and Germany business and investment Companies to; i. Train Vihiga County Business people through Vihiga Chamber of Commerce. ii. Assist in the identification of the right foreign investors to enter into business partnerships with. 5: Berlin Chamber of Commerce (DHK)-As a means to reduce poverty, create employment and impart appropriate entrepreneurial skills in our people, Berlin Chamber of Commerce agreed to; i. Work on a model together with Germany business people aimed at Training our people and equipping our training institutions. ii. Berlin Chamber of Commerce will also help in the search for the right investors for Vihiga County iii. Engage Germany investors to work with Vihiga County in areas of Business investment and industrial development 6: Sports and Youth Development-We have identified a sports trainer who will help in the development of soccer and other sporting activities and the development of talents in our youth. 7: A Germany investor has agreed to develop and improve the structure and the coordination of training and capacity development of Vihiga County business institutions in liaison with Germany Companies and Government. 8: Solar Energy-Under the “Light Vihiga Project”, we have agreed with a Germany Energy Company to; i. Provide affordable solar panels to the poor of the poor in Vihiga County with an initial target of 10,000 House Holds in FY 2013/2014-targetting 400 House Holds in every Ward ii. This Program will be designed to run for over 5 years. iii. Train Vihiga people to maintain solar energy project 9: Planners (Architects, Urban Planners and Landscapers)-Our commercial centers need to be redesigned to be in line with our new governance structure as a means of providing good services to the people. In this regard; i. A team of Germany Planners will come to Vihiga to help us redesign our towns and recreational facilities. ii. Help Vihiga County establish an interdisciplinary committee for Panning involving; Our liaison officer is in Germany finalizing other areas of creating partnerships and business ventures for mutual benefit and solidifying the gains we have made so far. I trust that with the support of our local leaders, we shall be able to make a positive impact in the lives of our people.
