PRESS RELEASE Our attention had been drawn to all the attacks and insults heaped on the Executive Governor of the state, His Excellency Owelle Rochas Okorocha, by Prof. Viola Onwuliri, Minister of State for Education while featuring on a programme anchored by a private-owned radio station in the state on Monday. It is disturbing to note that the latest radio programme which Prof. Onwuliri principally booked to abuse her home governor was neither the first time nor the second or third time, the Mbaise-born Minister would pay for an airtime for the purpose of attacking her governor for no just reason. It is also true that in each of the cases under reference, we never joined issues with her because we had the feeling that she has continue to do that to retain her appointment. Infact, it appears, attacking her governor was given to her as assignment. In her latest outing against the People’s governor she expressed anger over the governor’s claim that the PDP government at all levels has not favoured the state in particular and the South-East in general. At the end of her vituperation against the governor, Prof. Onwuliri challenged him for a debate. The challenge for a debate was, to say the least, laughable and indeed, insulting. It is like an Adviser in Imo State asking President Goodluck Jonathan to come for a debate. On what ground would the debate be anchored. Again, Professor Onwuliri had, in each case, used the opportunity she would have appropriated to prove the governor wrong over some of his claims, to resort to abuses. The governor said there are no federal government projects or presence in the state and even in the whole of the South-East States. And since Prof. Onwuliri had missed handling the issue in her radio programme, we now challenge her to publish the federal government projects in the state if they exist on the pages of newspapers for Imo people to see, since it is a popular maxim that seeing s believing. In doing that, the Minister should also state their locations for the avoidance of doubt. It will also be in the overall interest of Prof. Onwuliri to even list all the federal government projects in the whole of South-east and get them published immediately to enable Imo people and Igbos in general to know who is saying the truth and who is trading on falsehood. The governor also said that under the PDP government, the President is not an Igbo, the Vice-President is not an Igbo, the Senate president, Speaker of House of Representatives, Chief Judge of the federation, chairman of PDP, Chief of Naval Staff, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Air Staff, none is an Igbo man. Comprotter-General of Customs, the Controller-General of Immigration, Inspector-General of Police, Director-General of SSS, INEC Chairman, none is also an Igbo. It is therefore left for Prof. Onwuliri to take up these claims and fault them. She can not kill these obvious and factual claims with insults or name-calling. It is also left for her to publish, for all to see, any of these positions being held by an Igbo man. Prof. Onwuliri is an Imo woman. It is believed she knows the truth, but has to talk the way she had been talking to protect her job and we appreciate that. It is the gross absence of the federal presence in the state that has made some of the governorship candidates to be claiming state owned projects to be those of the federal government. We won’t insult Prof. Onwuliri like she has always abused the governor, but let her be a good ambassador of the Mbaise nation in particular and the Igbo race in general, by knowing that women owe men certain measure of respect, not minding the position one is occupying.
