PRESS RELEASE PR NO. 14-0051 Police Regional Office 11 Public Information Office Camp Quintin M Merecido, Davao City October 27, 2014 Pa and son soldier arrested for shooting businessman, cop wounded SASA Police arrested a father and son soldier for allegedly shooting a businessman inside Pink Spot Videoke Bar in Kilometer 12, Sasa, Davao City last Sunday evening. Suspects were identified as 2nd Lieutenant Rex Veñegas(ret), 56, and his son Private Mark Ryan Veñegas, 37, assigned in 25th Infantry Battalion of 10th Infantry Division. Records from Sasa Police Precinct revealed that around 11 p.m. Rex Veñegas and his son Mark Ryan both armed with .45 caliber pistols arrived at the videoke bar and confronted Rolando Jumamoy, 42, establishment owner and resident of Doña Salud, Sasa. Altercation between them ensued that prompted Rex Veñegas to shoot Jumamoy. PO3 Rey Alburo of Sasa Police Precinct who was having dinner together with his in-laws responded, identified himself as policeman tried to disarm Rex Veñegas. During the scuffle, PO3 Alburo was hit in the left hand but was able to disarm Rex Veñegas and shoot the latter. Veñegas son, Mark Ryan then pulled a gun and shot PO3 Alburo in the chest. PO3 Alburo was rushed by witnesses to San Pedro Hospital where he observed by his attending physicians in critical condition while Rex Veñegas was brought to Southern Philippines Medical Center(SPMC). The businessman, Rolando Jumamoy was declared dead on arrival by physicians in SPMC while Private Mark Ryan was arrested while at SPMC. He is now in the custody of Police Station Four, Sasa, Davao City. Filing of criminal charges against Private Mark Ryan and Retired 2nd Lieutenant Rex Veñegas is being prepared against them.
