PRESS STATEMENT IMMIGRATION SERVICES IN MOMBASA 30th September 2014 Since its inception the Mombasa immigration office has been serving the whole Coast region. It has not only been convenient but also economical and efficient for the coastal residents. The closure of the Mombasa immigration office will adversely affect the whole region. I understand the need to streamline the passport issuance exercise and I fully support strict security measures to be rolled out for the same, in line with global standard practices to protect the integrity of the Kenyan Passport. I appeal to the National Government to invest in appropriate technology that will ensure application and issuance of passports will still be done in Mombasa. This will go a long way to uphold the spirit of devolution and bring such an essential service closer to the people. On behalf of the people of Mombasa and the Coast region at large, my office has already started formal engagement with the National Government to maintain and enhance the capacity of Mombasa Office.
