PRESS STATEMENT OF PRESIDENT AND GENERAL SECRETARY OF EEFI ON PROTEST AGAINST BRUTAL ATTACK BY BIHAR POLICE ON PEACEFUL DEMONSTRATION OF ELECTRICITY EMPLOYEES OF BIHAR On being aggrieved by the attitude of Govt. of Bihar in respect of the pending demands of the Electricity Employees since unbundling of BSEB, 17 organizations of the Employees and Engineers of erstwhile BSEB called on a joint strike on 25th September, 2013. In support of the strike a 10 thousand strong demonstration was organized on 13th September, 2013 in front of the Bidyut Bhaban at Patna. Electricity Employees of India disdainfully noted that Bihar police have severely beaten the peaceful demonstrator of Bihar Electricity Board Employees with lethal weapon. Employees have been severely injured by the police. This unprovocated brutal attack by the Police forced the employees under the leadership of 17 unions to go on strike from 04.00 PM on 13th September, 2013. The strike continued up to 01.00 AM on 14th September, 2013. Upon intervention of Chief Minister and Power Minister of Bihar the strike was called off. United strike of Electricity Employees of all the unions called on 25th September, 2013 stands unless it is amicably settled by the Government. EEFI support the demands placed by the unions and associations in respect of the employees and pensioners of unbundled Bihar SEB and demand the state government of Bihar should come forward for immediate settlement of the demands with a view to maintain peace and harmony in the industry. Electricity Employees Federation of India (EEFI) vehemently condemn the police attacks on peaceful democratic movement and trade union right of the electricity employees in Bihar and demand immediate intervention of the Chief Minister of Bihar for amicable settlement.
