PRESS STATEMENT: THE FLOGGING OF THE 9 JUSTICES AND THE JUDICIARY MUST CEASE. Sonetco Institute [SI] takes strong reservation against the flogging spree that is being meted out to the 9 Judges and the Judiciary in general. How do we construct a formidable and efficient institution, if in exercising their Constitutional Mandates, we reply them with verbal venom which throws dirt on their personality and institution? It is welcoming news from the office of Prez J.A. Kuffour to have issued a word in this same vein to admonish those on this spree. Only that he could have gone a step further to name other personalities in his party who initiated this entire verbal diarrhea, the moment the verdict went the way of Prez Mahama and his NDC. We are witnesses to curses that were rained on the Justices and the flogging that was bandied about in the media. One of the high hopes of the NPP in the petition was because 6 Judges where appointed by Prez Kuffour, so they were expected to rule in favor of the NPP, but that did not happen and they are perceived as traitors and betrayers. To us in SI, we feel so proud of this 9 Justices who rendered justice in the face of all these perceptions. If other professionals will render service devoid of partisan affiliation mother Ghana will move forward in honesty. It is so ironical that these same Judges who were praised so high for bringing sanity and sanctity on our airwaves are the same being flogged because the verdict went against Nana Addo and the NPP. With lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata, we hope he is not trying to settle personal scores, since he referred us to the Law Reports. His pleadings/submission was upheld and his client the victor in the petition. Ghana needs strong Institutions that can rise above partisan loyalty and to sail “Ama” Ghana to the pedestals she deserves. We appreciate Ghanaians for the peace we are enjoying today. We have no alternative to peace and security. Long live Sonetco Institute. Long live Ghana. [Sgd.] Eric E.
