PRESS STATEMENT THE HOMABAY COUNTY SENATE - TopicsExpress

PRESS STATEMENT THE HOMABAY COUNTY SENATE BY-ELECTION Yesterday (Tuesday 16th December 2014), the National Elections Board (NEB) of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) had a day-long sitting at the party headquarters where it met all the seven aspirants for the party ticket in the February 2nd Homabay Senatorial by-election. The Board listened to every aspirant separately on the events that led to the cancellation of nomination exercise in Homabay on Monday this week and then held a session with the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party where the commissioners briefed them on their findings and sought the way forward. After long deliberations, the Board, the NEC and the aspirants settled on two options; 1. A repeat of the botched nomination exercise. 2. Consensus among the candidates that would lead to a direct ticket being issued to one of them. The candidates were then directed to hold a separate session on their own to reach a consensus on the party candidacy and report the outcome of their deliberations to the National Elections Board by 9:00.pm last night. The consensus was not conclusive. Having considered all factors and views expressed by the aspirants and in view of the short notice by IEBC and their reluctance to grant an extension the Board in consultations with the National Executive Committee, resolves as follows; 1. That a DIRECT Nomination will be given to a suitable candidate to carry the party’s flag in the by-election. 2. The board will immediately institute mechanisms by which it will use to determine the party candidate. 3. The Board will thereafter issue the certificate to the party candidate on or before December 19, 2014. We appeal to the people of Homabay and our general supporters to remain calm as the matter is being handled amicably. God Bless You All. Hon. Judith Pareno Chairperson ODM NEB
