PRESS: UK tour 2014 Lucy Kay announced as Special Guest No.1 classical chart sensation to duet with Andrea Bocelli The UK’s hottest classical treasure will join the maestro Andrea Bocelli for his November tour. Lucy Kay’s story is a testament to the power of music. Singing was a lifeline for the classically trained soprano – who came second on Britain’s Got Talent – helping her through years of emotional and physical bullying. The Leicester born, 25-year-old star is taking the classical world by storm. Since signing a multi-album deal with Sony Classical, Lucy has already topped the UK classical chart with her stunning debut album ‘Fantasia’ and has performed for The Duchess of York on her 55th birthday. Lucy, who trained at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, is determined to follow in Bocelli’s footsteps by challenging preconceived stereotypes and introduce classical music to new audiences and generations with her fresh and approachable style. The classical pin-up will join Bocelli on stage in London, Birmingham and Liverpool, where the pair will duet together on Canto Della Terra and Can’t Help Falling in Love. On touring with Andrea Bocelli, Lucy says: “Dreams can come true. Being asked to perform with Bocelli is proof of that. Here is a man that I have admired for many years and to be in his presence is such an honour. Bocelli is opera royalty. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world.” “I agree with the young, talented Lucy Kay,” says Andrea, “dreams can come true! My life also has a fairytale ending. Being on stage with new and talented singers and having the pleasure of duetting with them always brings me great joy and I learn something new every time.” The UK and Ireland will spend 4 nights in the company of Andrea Bocelli in November, a chance to revel in the romance and majesty of this stunning performer. And Andrea is supporting more new talent by inviting youth choirs to perform with him live on stage in front of thousands. A competition has uncovered one talented choir for each of the English cities he visits. The world’s premiere classical music star, Andrea Bocelli returns to arenas for 4 nights, with shows featuring the repertoire that has made him famous throughout the world as a unique artist able to cross boundaries between classical and pop. While some stars sing crossover, Bocelli is able to keep his classical and pop repertories separate, excelling at both as distinct disciplines. The biggest selling solo classical artist of all time, Bocelli has performed for four U.S. presidents, two popes and the royal family, as well as at ceremonies for the Olympic Games and the World Cup. He has been praised by such luminaries as Luciano Pavarotti, Franco Corelli, Zubin Mehta, Jose Carreras, Lorin Maazel, Renee Fleming and Celine Dion, who once introduced him by saying: “I heard someone say that if God had a singing voice, he would sound a lot like Andrea Bocelli.” He has sold over 80 million albums around the world, his 1999 Sacred Arias album has sold over 5 million copies, making it the best selling classical recording of all time. His pop career, including the much loved Time To Say Goodbye, a duet with Sarah Brightman that reached Number 1 in charts around the world in 1998, may have drawn millions in, but Bocelli has always enthusiastically shared his classical calling. Bocelli brings both that intimacy and the grandeur of operatic masterpieces to UK and Ireland Arenas. And with American violinist and YouTube star Lindsey Stirling also joining Andrea, this will be a night of musical celebration.
