PRICE TAGS MATTHEW 6:19-20 Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. Have you ever felt like you have so much to offer but is seems like no one sees value in what you have to give? One night, a group of thieves broke into a jewelry shop. But rather than stealing anything, they simply switched all the price tags. The next day no one could tell what was valuable and what was cheap. The expensive jewels had suddenly become cheap, while the costume jewelry which had been virtually worthless before was suddenly of great value. Customers who thought they were purchasing valuable gems were getting fakes. Those who could not afford the higher priced items were leaving the store with treasures. That story reminded me of these scriptures: Matthew 13:24-30 Jesus then told them this story: The kingdom of heaven is like what happened when a farmer scattered good seed in a field. But while everyone was sleeping, an enemy came and scattered weed seeds in the field and then left. When the plants came up and began to ripen, the farmers servants could see the weeds. The servants came and asked, Sir, didnt you scatter good seed in your field? Where did these weeds come from? An enemy did this, he replied. His servants then asked, Do you want us to go out and pull up the weeds? No! he answered. You might also pull up the wheat. Leave the weeds alone until harvest time. Then Ill tell my workers to gather the weeds and tie them up and burn them. But Ill have them store the wheat in my barn. We live in a world where evil is being valued as good and good is being looked at as being old fashioned and evil. The value system of this world has been corrupted with evil and just like in the jewelry shop; the cheap things are the ones that have been given an expensive price tag. God is allowing both the wheat and the tares to grow together until the time of the harvest. The world has put a huge price on popularity, beauty prestige and fame. The tares are being given the center stage instead of the wheat and many want to be associated with things that have no worth in Gods jewelry shop. You would think that men and women who are preaching the gospel or who are running organizations that provide relief help or those who take care of the sick would be the ones who are valued because what they are doing has eternal value. Instead you have movie stars and music superstars being paid millions of dollars to practically spearhead values that are contrary to the word of God, destroying homes all over the world. You have young footballers athletes and media personalities being paid so much money they have no idea what to do with it, it practically destroys their lives. Thats where the world has placed value. No wonder many want to become celebrities in this generation. Many times you will get the poor gravitating towards the gospel and to the eyes of some who are rich (notice I said some, not all) it may seem like they are going for the cosmetic jewelry because they cannot afford the real thing. What they dont realize is the price tags have been switched and what they consider expensive and to be of value, is actually worthless with no eternal value. Though the world may not appreciate what you are doing, and many may consider it worthless, just remember that the day of harvest is coming. The tares that seem of value right now will be tied up in bundles and set on fire. As for you, your treasure is not here, it is stored up in heaven. Some people do tend to associate law breaker with being tough. You are tough depending on how you can do a mistake of a crime and just walk away with it. When one flout traffic rules and get ahead of other without being arrested by the police by feel to be tough. Some men and women would discuss how the can date or engage in multi relationships without any other their partners realizing it and feel that that makes them quite someone as compared to one who is faithfully in one relationship. In a nutshell, the values are so inverted. People tend to embrace and like evil so much than they do with the good. The devil has changed the price tag and we blindly get caught in his tricks. We need the wisdom of God. We need the Holy Spirit in order to discern and know when we are being deceived. Let us look at the moral and use the Word of God as a measuring rod to distinguish the best values. Friends, I wish you a blessed Month of September! I thank God for you and for the free gift of life. Thank you very much and have a wonderful day!
