PRIDE IN OUR HERITAGE - A note from Fairmonts Charles Kemp: In June I formed a 14 person committee to develop plans for a museum sponsored event honoring our rural lifestyle and culture. Today I’d like to publicly announce that FAIRMONT’S HERITAGE DAYS will be held here in town on April 24-26. The event, spread out over three days, will focus on and celebrate the rural lifestyle which has been passed down for generations in our area. There has never been an event of its kind held in town before. Below are details of the three day event along with vendor forms and instructions (SEE INFO BELOW) for those wishing to participate. We hope you will add it to your to do list for the spring and join in the fun of FAIRMONT’S HERITAGE DAYS. • Friday April 24th- A country dinner of fried chicken and fixin’s served on aluminum pie plates and beverages served in mason jars with rural themed table centerpieces will be served starting at 7:00 p.m. in the downtown Heritage Center. Mistress of Ceremonies, N.C. Welcome Center (Rowland) Director, Kat Littleturtle will bring rural humor and area folk stories to life amid gospel singing, blue grass music and clogging for the hour and a half event. Tickets will be $20 per person and will go on sale April 1st. • Saturday April 25th- Heritage Days moves to the museum grounds for antique farm equipment and car displays, arts/crafts, and food booths with the focus clearly on rural or country fare, a barbeque pork cook-off will be held with judging at noon and barbeque sandwiches afterwards for sale as well as a pound cake cooking contest. Throughout the afternoon live gospel and blue grass music will be presented from the museum stage. There will also be a clogging demonstration. ARTS/CRAFTS and FOOD VENDORS with a rural or country product or theme, barbeque cookers, pound cake cooks, or antique car owners who wish to participate should contact Charles Kemp at [email protected] or call either 910-628-7362 or 910-740-0277 as soon as possible to get participation forms for this great event. • Sunday April 26th- Observing the time honored tradition of youth “cruising” around town during the 70’s-90’s, the final day of this event features “DRAGGIN’ MAIN” where the community youth parked in the town hall parking lot and socialized then drove to the Snak-Shak restaurant for more of the same. This part of the event is from 3:00-5:00 and all those who used to “DRAG MAIN” are once again welcome to join in the fun. For additional news and info regarding this event go to festivalnews.info and scroll the events at the top of this festival and event web site to find FAIRMONT’S HERITAGE DAYS. Come join us on this weekend in April to relive and enjoy a look back at our glorious days and enjoy the heritage we are all proud of.
