PRIDE of CPD: We are giving a much deserved SHOUT OUT to Officer Marstiller! At 1:39 pm today, a 911 call was received about a possible drowning in the rear of 5000 Softwood Ct. (northeast Columbus) A 6-year-old boy knocked on the door & said a girl younger than him had just fallen through the ice into the pond. The caller could see the girl was still on top of the still frozen pond laying on her back inside a plastic sled approximately 25 feet from shore. Officer Marstiller arrived on-scene first & deployed his assigned rescue rope. After numerous attempts, Officer Marstiller was able to land the rope next to her after he had weighted the bag with his flashlight. The 5-year-old girl was able to grab onto the rope and Officer Marstiller was able to pull her to shore and safety. The girl was reunited with her grandparents who were at scene. (Patrol personnel in the Columbus Division of Police are the first responders of the Division who serve and protect hundreds of thousands of people each day. Responding to citizens’ calls for service around the clock requires professionalism, dedication and perseverance. Officer Marstiller demonstrated these traits and what it truly means to serve and protect. Thats why he today’s PRIDE of CPD!)
