PRIMARIES BACK TO SQUARE HALF. The PDP House of Assembly - TopicsExpress

PRIMARIES BACK TO SQUARE HALF. The PDP House of Assembly primaries elections have come and gone. My take is that while there were some semblance of real contest last Saturday and Sunday, the elections were already rigged and compromised by the way the delegates emerged on November 1. The delegates were not elected as the party constitution stipulated. In fact there were practically no delegates elections. Powerful and connected people wrote the delegates lists and defended them with money at Abuja. In all the cases the non connected aspirants didnt know who the delegates are because the lists were not not even known or made public except to the powerful authors of the lists. The result is that the average man did not have a say in the primary process. Again also in most local governments hundreds of thousands of naira were given per delegate. In one particular local govt in Okigwe zone one leader paid each delegate 500,000 naira to install his protégée. This is the worst type of rigging and the end product is immaterial. Is this democracy as envisaged by the constitution? Certainly not. Did the process hold? Of course it did. Unfortunately We are back to square half. I wonder what will happen in the National Assembly and gubernatorial primaries. This country, my people!!
