PRIME MINISTER GRACES SWAZI RHYTHM PREMIERE EZULWINI - Swazi Rhythm consortium held a premiere for two of their videos on Thursday, evening at Movie Zone in Gables. The Prime Minister Dr Sibusiso Barnabas Dlamini attended the event to witness this great step in local arts. Swazi Rhythm is a CD compilation of local artist that was compiled by SBIS deejay Lindelwa ‘Lindz’ Mafa in a bid to recognise and market local artists. The stable has gone a step further by shooting two videos from the CD compilation, by artists Diba Diba and Amanda Mo. According to Lindelwa Mafa, the premiere was made possible by a sponsorship from REDI and Limkokwing University whose film students shot and edited the videos. “I am very grateful to REDI for making this night possible as they made sure we were fully sponsored to make the videos’ premiere possible. I also want to thank Limkokwing University for allowing us to use their facilities to shoot this videos,” said Mafa . Making his remarks the Prime Minister firstly thanked Mafa for the invite and for bringing the Swazi Rhythm project to his attention. The PM who was clearly impressed by the Swazi talent said it is high time that artists were given the recognition and respect they deserved. “It is high time to recognise our own artists in both music and indeed film, and that recognition should also have a financial dimension. We need full-time artists with time and resources to continue developing and presenting their work to the public. That will not happen when we put on functions where Swazi artists are paid only a small fraction of the fee given to outsiders,” he said. The PM said he was very impressed by local talent and even made mention of how he was blown away by Nomzamo and Floewe’s performances during the Business Woman of the Year Awards. The PM further encouraged Mafa to continue supporting Swazi grown talent as she has a great platform to do so as a radio personality. The PM further tackled the issue of low pay by organisers towards local artists saying, “It will be contributing to an even greater breadth of our national culture if corporate organisations and trade fairs show greater recognition of our domestic talents and hire local artists more frequently and pay them generously.” After his speech the PM then took time to award certificates to those organisations that played a pivotal role in making Swazi Rhythm a success. These included The Times of Swaziland, REDI, SNCAC, Limkokwing University, SBIS and Swazi TV. After the launch invited guests had a chance to watch a movie for free at the Movie Zone Theater courtesy of Swazi Rhythm and their sponsors. Source: Times of Swaziland (30-09-13)
