PRINCIPLES OF HOPE A 30 DAY JOURNEY INTO HOPE DAY 12 “ FROM BAD TO WORSE” In the cartoon, the sad little man was standing in front of an important looking door with a gold key in his hand. With obvious disappointment he says, “ By the time I finally found the key to hope-they had changed all the locks.” Does that sound familiar? You have just come through your own ‘dark night of the soul’ and now life is beginning to look promising, when suddenly, you receive one of those bad news phone calls, or at your next Doctor’s appointment he reveals yet another possible crisis. “ Oh Lord, Why? What? When will I ever get done with all this mess.” King David was intimately aware of circumstances like this. “ Turn to me and have mercy, for I am alone and in deep distress. My problems go from bad to worse. Oh, save me from them all! Feel my pain and see my trouble. Forgive all my sin.” (Psalm 25: 16-18) From a teenaged farm hand and sheep tender, to giant-killer, hero, and the King’s favorite, to Palace musician and worship leader, to great warrior champion and the General of the King’s Army, to fugitive, pursued like a common criminal, and thought of as a traitor, and was betrayed by his ‘friends’. On at least two occasions it appeared his fortunes were about to turn to favor again, when everything tumbled back into the negative pattern of bad to worse, as the apparent theme of his life. Your story may read a little or a lot like David’s, but the eternal solution is still the same today. That’s because “Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8) In your David-like place, be encouraged to do as David did; “Show me the right path, Oh Lord; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth (Word) and teach me, for you are the God Who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you. May integrity and honesty protect me, for I put my hope in you,” (Psalm 25: 4,5,21) You now have the key to hope! He promises He will open all the right doors, and lock all the wrong doors, as “All day long you put your hope in Him!
