PRIVATE SECTOR STATEMENT ON THAILAND POLITICAL - TopicsExpress

PRIVATE SECTOR STATEMENT ON THAILAND POLITICAL SITUATION STATEMENT OF THE SEVEN PRIVATE SECTOR ORGANISATIONS IN SUPPORT OF THE PEACE NEGOTIATION The Seven Private Sector Organisations comprising the Board of Trade of Thailand, The Federation of Thai Industry, The Thai Bankers Association, Tourism Council of Thailand, Federation of Thai Capital Market Organization, The Stock Exchange of Thailand and Thai Listed Companies Association would like to express our grievous concern over the prolongation of the current political crisis. We are saddened that the conflict has unfortunately resulted in violence which has caused a serious material damage and losses to human life, even to the life of small children and innocent bystanders recently. The untold economic damages have already negatively afflicted the core grassroots of the economic real sectors, comprising small and medium enterprises, small farmers and agriculturists, and unskilled workers. They are directly and gravely affected by the continuation of this conflict. Moreover, should the conflict be prolonged it would definitely bring about the crisis of confidence among various foreign investors. It would further erode the countrys competitiveness and its economic and trade opportunity in the region. We therefore applaud and welcome the initiatives of both sides to come to the negotiation table as a positive step in the right direction. We support fully the parties in conflict to enter into a real and most sincere negotiation to find a peaceful end to this conflict as soon as possible. We are of the view that both sides should endeavour to bring the negotiation to a successful conclusion, taking into account the national interests and the unity of the Thai people. They should commit themselves to find peace without posing any prior condition precedents before the start of the negotiation. The Seven Private Sector Organisations believe that the parties in conflict should be inspired with the love of their nation and families. Everyone should strive to give this country a chance to live an eternal peace and stride forward together towards a common noble goal that would in the end take the negotiation to a successful conclusion.
