PROFESSION OF ARMS “Men who adopt the profession of arms have on their own freewill submit to a life of perpetual constraint of their own accord”…Charles De Gaulle. Every person in life has at a point in time, chose his path. Some choose to be politicians, others doctors, lawyers or even armed robbers. Whatever the choice, it makes or mar one. Some have chosen the path of soldering, to safeguard the territorial integrity of a sovereign nation. If they die doing this, they are not perturbed, they die with the hope that their death will bring peace and tranquility to a troubled state. The numbers are staggering, media reports are but a shadow reality. Many are left widowed and orphaned by the sacrifices of these brave men and women. “on the word of command they must rise, march, run, endure bad weather, go without sleep or food, be isolated in some distant post “.This is the life they live…This is the path they have chosen…”knowing that in war there is no second place for the runner up. As we celebrate the Armed forces Remembrance Day, let us remember those who fought to keep us as one indivisible nation. Let us rise in salute to the #fallenheroes Let us make a solemn declaration not to let the labors of our heroes past be in vain; Let it echo in our hearts and mind and propel us to seek peace. The nation today needs men who will think in terms of their service to the nation and not in terms of their country’s debt. Battles are won by the infantry, the armor, the artillery, the air components, by soldiers living in the rains and huddling in the snow (harmattan).
