PROFITING BY THE WORD ~ Saturday, January 18th - Pastor Anita. Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. 1 Timothy 4:15 There’re two words to take note of in our opening verse. The first is the word “profiting,” which means earnings, benefits, progress, advancement, furtherance, and prosperity. The second word is “appear,” which is translated from the Greek word “phaneros,” and it means to spread abroad. If you meditate on the Scriptures, your profiting, progress, advancement, furtherance, and prosperity will spread abroad, and become widely and openly known; it’ll be manifest to all. God’s Word is guaranteed to improve your life and catapult you from one level of glory to another. However, many aren’t reaping the full benefits of the Word of God in their lives because they haven’t mixed the Word with faith. Hebrews 4:2 says “…but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.” When you hear God’s Word, accept it and act on it; otherwise, it won’t profit you. Another reason the benefits of God’s Word may not be evident in a person’s life is human traditions, assumptions and theories. Those who exult their human traditions, theories or assumptions over God’s Word make the Word of no effect in their lives. In Mark 7:13, the Lord Jesus talked about such people: “Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.” Some others joke against the Word, speaking idle, inoperative words that profit them nothing. Cultivate a personal culture of studying and fellowshipping with God’s Word. God’s desire is for you to become a specialist in His Word; one who’s able to rightly divide the Word of truth. Through study and meditation, you understand and correctly analyse the Word of God; you’re able to apply it in your personal life for it to produce what it talks about. The measure of attention you give to the Word will determine the extent of your progress in life. If you give less attention to the Word, you’d function in a lesser degree of knowledge, lesser understanding, which in turn, will result in little or no progress. However, through constant meditation on the Word, you make your way prosperous and deal wisely in the affairs of life. CONFESSION Dear Lord and Father, your Word is my light and my life! It’s the nourishment for my spirit, food for my soul and health to my body! I live by your Word today, and declare that it works mightily in me as I meditate on it, and observe to do what it says. Amen. FURTHER STUDY 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
