PROMOTER’S POINT-NOVEMBER 3, 2014 What a fantastic way to end the 2014 racing season at the historic Mottville Speedway! Saturday the high was 43! Yet we had 25 cars! And a much bigger crowd then we had the week before when it was warm! Some great racing! A fitting end to one really great season for the historic Mottville Speedway! Extremely close Sportsmen finish! Bradley Blackburn, Jr. just getting by and I mean JUST getting by Rich Boal for the feature win! Tough break for Rick Wolkens! He had a huge and I mean HUGE lead on the field when the engine just quit! He led the first 13 laps! Rick said at pay-off he thinks it was the distributor! He did pick up a heat win. I think we had more restarts in the Mini Stock feature than any other night this season! Must have been the extra $100 put on the line by Roberts RV, Frontline RV and Mark’s Towing! Kris Miller, co Rookie of the Year, sure has shown improvement! He won another heat! Louis Davis with a sold 3rd place finish! Mr. Excitement Ron Laughman had a very tough night! I think he twice ended up in the woods! Famous last words but if I could do it over again I would have put a certain car on the tail to start! A surprise entry was Dylan Huffman, at Mottville for the just the 2nd time! Another very impressive feature win for Aaron Zimmerman who really came on extra strong in the final 6 weeks of the season! Aaron Zimmerman was the youngest Mini Stock points champion ever and raced all 34 nights! Again, very impressive! Todd Roberts raced 33 of the 34 nights and won 29 features out of 33 to win the Mini Thunder Car season points championship! Super impressive! Ed Martz was 2nd in MTC points and had perfect attendance-34 for 34! Tyler Mead was 3rd and the Rookie of the Year and missed only one night! Pretty impressive! Jack Hurford returned and finished 4th in the points! Rod Roberts recorded a strong 2nd place feature finish! I think Hornets point champion David Terry raced about 30 nights! Speaking of Hornets their car count really picked up the final two months of the season! Raymond Bakeman is a truly amazing rookie! I can not remember any rookie with the success he has had this season! Living Legend Eric Root picked up a dash and heat win and 2nd in the feature! Next season I am told Glenna Root will be racing a Hornet! Mike Worthington told me he is leaving the track crew next year and driving! Now I find out David Dyer will be leaving the track crew and racing as well!! Mary Beth Laughman has already purchased a race car!! Sounds like Hornet car counts will be very good! Richele Wolkens had a 2nd and 3rd in the heats and a 4th in the feature and ended up 3rd in the point standings! Another very impressive Hornet rookie this season was Kevin PeGan! He did not start until late so he can be a candidate for ROY in 2015! I think that was the final race for the Mutt Mobile! It will sure be interesting to see what Scott Binkley puts together for 2015! A few statistics for 2014! We averaged 29 cars per night over 34 nights! Yes, we are super happy with that! 4 Sportsmen per night after a late start, a little over 6 MS per night, 8 MTC per night, a little over 6 Hornets and 7 Karts. We had a great staff of track officials this season and I think most of them will be back which is very good news! I sure am hoping winter does not last as long as it did last season and we can actually start on March 28! I do know we will end the 2015 season a week early because Halloween is on a Saturday in 2015! Except for the Karts I do not anticipate any rules changes for 2015! Registration, pit pass and general admission should all remain the same! I do think we will add snow cones to the concession menu in 2015! I do know I will be eager to start season 25 for myself and season 65 for the historic Mottville Speedway in 2015! I am excited! What about you?
