PRONOUNCEMENT: The question is asked, What is on your mind? Here goes: for the past quarter century during my time as a photographer in the film/television/entertainment industry, I have many many times sent gifts to producers, directors and actors I have worked with. The gifts have often been beautiful, museum/archival quality prints, often large and framed, all done at my expense, including shipping via FedEx. On perhaps five percent or less of these giftings have I gotten acknowledgement or thanks from the recipients. Now Im not out to seek adulation in these circumstances, but when I receive a gift, even a card, I make sure I acknowledge and thank the giver. Its just simple decency and courtesy in our journey through life. As a long time caregiver to my quadriplegic sister, and now paraplegic myself from a rare, late onset genetic disease, I have come to know that in our finite time here in life and on earth, all we really have is our character, is grace. I am disheartened by the lack of character and simple decency of many so called high level people, who are so self absorbed that they cannot take a minute or less of time to say thank you. Going forward, there will be no more gifts to these above the liners. My full attention and care will be given to my family and to students, the elderly, the disabled, and the decent, who have been and are going through the fire of life and still have the character to express appreciation. End of rant (for now).
