PROOFS OF A ROOF I have never slept under a thatched roof before but from what i have read in books, i have been made to understand that during raining season, it’s always as if there is no roof over you if you do not reinforce it earlier before the season starts. Suddenly, from a statistical reverie, the Statistician-General of my country, Nigeria woke up and announced to the world that Nigerian has become the largest economy in Africa, ahead of South Africa. Yes, economically and Statistically his argument of re-basement makes sense. But in reality, it is a comical calculation of the highest order and a satirical ruse that i describe to be beyond the impolitic state of amnesia that our economy has been compelled to assumed due to fiscal policies that i call “come chop,wash your mouth and go” adopted by our political leaders with the active connivance of our so called technocrats. Haba! How can you call us the largest economy in Africa when we are planning to import power from a War torn country like Congo, always giving excuses of pipeline vandalization whenever power generation drops from our paltry 4000 MW and yet the gas pipeline that supplies gas from Nigeria to power Ghana is not vandalized. How do we place our mind on the fact that the basics that are determinants of how well an economy is doing, which should be obvious in the state of our critical infrastructures and the welfare of the recipients of the economy are ignored, yet the statistics of their population is used to score cheap economic points in the sight of the world. We are a blessed country, envied from a distance, but lack the proofs thereof. Yes, we may be right statistically, but the obvious is a far flung contrast with the figures. We have a ROOF, but we lack the PROOFS! I RISE !!!
