PROTEIN, A MACRONUTRIENT: Tip #2 #2: Protein has thermogenic properties. Protein is necessary for the repair and building of lean muscle. It equates to 4cal per 1g (same as Carbohydrates), however it is made up of a large number of Amino Acids. This, in effect, means the body has to work harder to break down the Macro nutrients, to digest the protein food source. SO, working harder means two things: (1) More energy expenditure therefore you are actually burning energy to digest the protein [that’s a tick on the scheme of weight loss] and (2) It’s dense mass yields greater satiety – feeling of fullness, so you are restricted from over eating.
