PROTEST - NO CUTS TO CLEANERS’ PAY! Friday 8 November 8.30am – 9.30am College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London (CONEL), High Road, Tottenham N15 4RU (2 mins Seven Sisters tube) Our cleaners deserve a living wage, not poverty pay! Cleaners at Conel are on £6.19 per hour, minimum wage. To save money, the college and the cleaning contractor, Ocean, are planning to cut their contracts from 51 to 39 weeks in the year from January 2014, to work term time only – a 23% pay cut. This is below minimum wage and is shameful and disgusting! If the college wants to save money, they can cut the pay of senior management, some of whom are earning more than £140,000 per year, and stop hiring external consultants at £700 per day! If Conel is the community college it claims to be, it should honour Haringey Council’s pledge to pay no one less than the London Living Wage of £8.55 per hour (going up to £8.90) – the minimum necessary to live in London with dignity. · No cuts to cleaners’ hours or weeks they are paid · The London Living Wage for Conel cleaners Protest called by CONEL cleaners and their union GMB with support of the UCU at CONEL. Messages of support please to Steve Sweeney, GMB Regional Organiser, Freepost NW2 668, 152 Brent Street, London NW4 2BR [email protected] or Jenny Sutton chair UCU at Conel [email protected] Please forward widely
