PROVIDENCE 2015: Tested! Able!! Trusted!!! I am overwhelmed by the massive pouring of accolades, felicitations, prayers, best wishes, regards, reverend, appellations and hopes that attended the decision of the leadership of my party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) honour me with the flagship of its banner in the House of Representatives elections scheduled to hold in February 2015 in the Ede/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency. I am equally humbled by the pockets of reservations, howbeit feeble and indeed hesitant, from a faction of my fellow party men about the manner of my emergence as the preferred choice of the leadership of our party. Democracy and concensus building cannot be a 100% affairs. It involves sacrifices, give and take, acceptance of fate and magnanimity. As a leader and manager, I accept both the kudos and the knocks as manifestations of democracy in action. With the nomination process closed, I open my hands of fellowship to all and sundry for the development of our constituency, State and nation. Whichever way we view it, I am happy that both the supporters and destrators agreed on one point. I cannot be described as a power monger. We all know that as the Honourable Member representing my Ejigbo State Constituency, I declined to seek reelection in 2003 when the opportunity presented itself for me to do so, and remained in the sideline for the past 11 eleven years without seeking any elective position or beg for any appointive position, waiting patiently for Allah to continue to determine the course of my political life while remaining consistent in the dogged pursuit of the progressive tradition that I belonged, through the AC, ACN to the APC. I am also not a reluctant candidate! I happily accept the nomination. Having accepted the rare honour, as manifested in the trust and confidence reposed in me by the leadership and the generality of the members of the party, I have taken the challenge and will plan well, fight hard and pray dutifully for the overall success of the party only in the House of Representatives election but also ensure the return of Najeem Salaam and all our House of Assembly candidates, all my fellow contestants for positions in the House of Representatives, Senate (including Alhaji Isiaka Adeleke) and the President-in-waiting Muhammadu Buhari on the platform of our great All Progressives Congress.APC! Change! I am not a novice in the business of governance. I possess the needed qualifications for robust legislative business, and wont be a bench warmer in the National Assembly. The truth is that I have been TESTED, as Secretary to the Local Government, Ejigbo LG and as Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, and found ABLE. Alhamdulillah. I have earned the TRUST and confidence of the progressive tradition in Nigerian politics by my consistency notwithstanding the use of combinations of carrots and sticks to lure me out of the fold since I voluntarily left the corridors of power in May 2003. My mission in Abuja is divinely ordained and hence PROVIDENTIAL. The signs have been ominous for some time. Recall that about a year ago, I was named as a part of the Osun delegation to the National Constitutional Conference. Although that mission was truncated by the powers that be at Aso Rock, I took it with philosophical calmness and continued my private life pursuits unperturbed. Again, at the instance of the Ogbeni, I successfully managed the Muhammadu Buhari presidential declaration in Osun to success and feel fulfilled to have been given the opportunity to further participate in the making of the peoples President through my membership of the 3rd National Convention Planning Committee and my visible role in the presidential primary 2014 of the APC. The unique endorsement of my candidacy for higher assignment in the seat of power in Abuja is indeed an icing on the cake. In accepting this nomination, I have constructed in my inner mind an unwritten pact with the people of my constituency in particular and Nigeria in general to provide: 1) Quality Representation of the type that would leave a legacy of selfless service, commitment to development through good legislation and performance of the oversight functions 2) Enhanced Constituency Relations that promotes transparency in governance, economic empowerment and social responsibility without compromising the leadership traits that have been hard earned over the years. 3) Abundant life for all through equal opportunities built on equity, equality, fairness and justice. MOJEED ALABI . . . anfaani repete, igbadun gbogbo wa! So, help me God!
