PRT 2008 Agriculture & Man falls under Kursus Wajib Universiti. Every graduand of UPM will have this course listed in their transcript. This semester (which has just recently ended) I was assigned to lecture Group 34 (students from the Science Fac.) and as part of the course requirement i ask the students to come up with a report on the future of Agriculture in Malaysia focusing on 5 sectors (livestocks, fisheries, food, commodity and urban agriculture). They have the liberty to work individually, in pairs or groups of three. To my amazement many of them took the assignment with all seriousness and came up with excellent write up complete with facts and figures; to which they should not be assigned to the corner of my office and eventually clutter the space. So i decided to collate and bind them in hard cover for perpetual reference. Thank you to the class of group 34 (Sem 1 2014/2015). Im sure this would be memorable and sentimental since your effort is not taken lightly and cherished for years to come. Serious academic efforts will not go to waste. I hope this will change the outlook of every students at UPM and to treat such a humble 2 credit course (which apparently may not count among your advance engineering, medical and physical science courses) in a different light. Yes, agriculture is indeed tied up to our national security and food security is essentially the future of our well being and the bedrock of our sustainable economic growth.
