PS MGYSR LASHES OUT AT LEFA, FIFA Maseru, Nov. 22 (LENA) --- The Principal Secretary (PS) for the Ministry of Gender and Youth, Sports and Recreation, Dr. Majara Molapo has lashed out at both national soccer governing body Lesotho Football Association (LEFA) as well as the Federation of International Football Federation (FIFA) at a media briefing held on Friday. Dr. Majara claims that both LEFA President Advocate Salemane Phafane and FIFA Supremo Mr. Sepp Blatter as well as General Secretary Mr. Jerome Valcke are friends who have been implicated in corrupt activities of vote buying, match fixing and maladministration of football who are hell bend on clinching on to power for a long time. Speaking about Advocate Phafane, he said based on information he has, the LEFA head is responsible for the decline of the standard of football in the country, as well as match fixing scandals and vote buying. Dr. Majara said he approached some of the Leribe District Football Association delegates who attended the federations congress and confessed that they had been approached by Adv. Phafane to stay in Mafeteng prior to the presidential elections held on October 26. They have confessed that Adv. Phafane arranged an accommodation for them to stay in Mafeteng instead of Bamabatha Tsita a day before the elections in question, he said. He accused Adv. Phafane for conniving with certain people to make sure that the forthcoming regional Council of Southern Africa Football Association (COSAFA) Youth champion to be hosted in the country in December does not succeed. He alleged that the LEFA president has been in secret meetings where they plotted the failure of the regional championship. Dr. Majara pointed out that Adv. Phafane, Mr. Blatter and Mr. Valcke are against ongoing investigations of maladministration and match fixing allegations conducted by the Ministry of Gender and Youth, Sports and Recreation after being ordered to form a commission of inquiry by the Prime Minister. He said the trio think that they are untouchable and made statutes aimed at protecting their wrong doing which prevent the government from conducting investigations. He said while LEFA is autonomous, the Ministry of Gender and Youth, Sports and Recreation has constitutional powers to intervene where necessary. Dr. Majara was responding to statements made by the LEFA president at a media briefing that the Ministry is interfering with the associations affairs, not aware that FIFA will suspend the country as the member of the world soccer controlling body if that does not stop. He (Dr. Majara) denied that the Ministry wrote a letter to FIFA, claiming that the letter could have been leaked by LEFA itself after writing to the association, Lesotho Sport and Recreation Commission (LSRC) and Lesotho National Olympic Committee (LNOC) informing them about the intention to investigate the football controlling body. Meanwhile, LSRC has also came out in support of LEFA at a press conference held this week. LENA
