PS Rant #5 10/09/13 It only takes one boys!! It only takes one deafening and mighty roar from a REAL post season crowd, wearing their worn, tattered, and loved Cardinals gear, to remind the city of Pittsburgh EXACTLY why this is called Baseball Heaven. It only takes one devastating Waino curveball to leave McCutcheon, Martin, and co… all squirting down their pants leg. It only takes one swing of the bat to get Matt Carpenter back into the mix. It only takes one GPS guided moon shot from Beltran to send the entire steel city digging into their closets, hoping to find their Penguins jersey as they realize that this ride is over. It only takes one avalanche of offense to send the Bucco’s packing for the rest of the winter. Today is the day we reestablish dominance. Today is the day we shake off the offensive funk we’ve been in, and return to form to remind the league why we led the NL in wins as well as OFFENSE. Today we shove it up Dick Stockton’s cornhole and make him eat his words. Today we squash the fairy tale carriage for the national media, once and for all. Today we set the stage for a classic fall battle between two storied franchises. This is YOUR time St. Louis. This is the time where the ghosts of Musial, Mize, Slaughter, Dean, and company reign down like falling leaves in the autumn wind. This is why we cart out a slew of HOFers before every one of these games. This is why the players in the Pirates dugout will look and tremble upon the sight of Bob Gibson, Lou Brock, and the rest of the league of retired numbers we boast in this ballpark. Do it for those guys. Do it for the players who proudly wear the red jackets and wave to the fans. Do it because Bob Gibson could still strike out half of their order. Do it to remind Albert that he F#cked up when he left here. Do it because when you’ve earned the image as the hated Cardinals to the media and the rest of the National League, it’s because you’ve done it the right way…by WINNING IN OCTOBER! So let’s do it tonight boys. Let’s remind them why Yadi is the MVP. Let’s remind them why Waino is as dominant of a pitcher as this franchise has ever had. Let’s remind them why Carpenter is one of the best second basemen in the game now. Let’s do it because a 22 yr old Rookie broke it off in them last time in an inspired pitching performance that just proves… “Damn..they do just RELOAD!”. Do it for Chris Carpenter, as he screams and yells and almost WILLS you to win again. Let’s do it because Carlos DESERVES to be in the World Series and it should be with US. Let’s do it because while Greenbay might be title town, we are truly BASEBALL HEAVEN here in St. Louis. Break it off in them boys. Show them what happens when you challenge the empire. TONIGHT we trample the weak, and hurdle the dead as we stomp our way further into post season baseball. Do it because you are better. Do it because it’s the natural order of things. Do it because we don’t want to see those fair weather fans have any reason to celebrate on our watch. Do it for 50,000 screaming fans who have been there year in and year out and always have your back! Do it because mustaches are for hipsters and lunch ladies. Do it because this CITY DEMANDS IT. Do it because celebrating on that lush green field at Busch Stadium, with 50,000 of your closest friends, is EXACTLY how it should be done! Do it because… F#CK PITTSBURGH!!!!
