PSA: ATTENTION!!!!! My mother was a victim of TXU fraud today. A lady called her insisting that her payments for July and August 2013 had not been received (but September and October had) and that her service would be interrupted at 1:30 p.m. today. Mom, being 68 years old, immediately gave her credit card number to the lady to prevent loss of service and reconnect fees. The lady then said the card would not go through which prompted mom to call me to check on the card. Mom asks me if her TXU is still set for EFT and i told her yes and she proceeded to tell me the story. I had her connect me with the lady who immediately started to stronghold and bully me. I asked the lady what were the amounts that were past due and she gave them. Review of my mom’s checking account withdrawals did not match up with her amounts so I told the lady that she may have the wrong account pulled up and let’s confirm.....all of a sudden the call was disconnected. Unfortunately mom had already given out way too much info by then. We called TXU directly who told us the account was NOT past due and service would not be interrupted. The rep had to place a RED flag on moms account and mom has to file a police report now, cancel her credit card and a whole bunch of other tuff to TRY to protect herself. Please REMIND your elderly parents and loved ones NOT to ever give any personal info including credit card numbers, D.O.B, and SSN over the phone. I discussed all the red flags (which were many) of that conversation with my mom so she will be aware in the future. I reminded her that Ive asked her not to give personal info out and when people like that call her, to tell them to hold and call me (because Im a bigger bully and the can of oil, hence the reason the lady hung up) and I will handle the call. #PleaseKeepTheAnnouncementsInMindAndGovernYourselveAccordingly
