PSA because I have to. Last night I landed in San Diego. Home. After a trip to Atlanta, an awesome wedding, a five hour drive to Charleston, and a week there. It was fun, and action packed. Rhodey worked during the wedding weekend (one day), anad had a blast playing with his canine cousins. Flying isnt his favorite. But he does it with minimal complaint. For me. We landed in San Diego, and it was late, 7pm. Which felt like 10pm because I was still on EST. We managed to get off the plane, and out to the ground transportation. I was using my wheelchair, and Rhodey, and I actually had no idea where to get the van. I was on my phone trying to get the van service on the phone... but it wasnt working... I could hardly hear the announcements on the other line, when I happened to look down a young child (maybe 2 or 3), was running at Rhodey. She got VERY CLOSE. Leaned over his head, her face next to his. I commanded Rhodey to back up, and settle. Which he did. While I tried to continue my phone conversation.... all I could think was how lucky this parent was. A strange kid putting their head right next to the head of a strange dog. I wanted to explode, to yell at her to leash the kid and learn some manners about personal space. Lucky for this family I was still trying to figure out how to get the rest of the way home..... I moved Rhodey to the other side of my chair and finally the family went away. If you think Im rude for not responding to your VERY belated is that okay?, its nothing compared to the absolute rudeness of you not only interrupting a stranger on a phone call, but also completely violating the personal space of their VERY VERY important medical equipment. Rhodey is a good boy, who does incredible work. I write about this two fold.... 1. Dont invade the personal space of a service dog, its just plain rude. 2. Not all dogs can handle a strange kid.... in their face.... NOT ALL DOGS ARE QUALIFIED to be service dogs. They simply dont have the temperament. A vest doesnt make a service dog. Theres just.....so much more.
