PSALM 1 What we have here is a wisdom psalm which is intended to guide all who take the time to read it as a guide to wisdom, but even more, divine instruction. Thats what I thought was its biggest draw, who of us mortals does not want to receive divine instruction from almost any source, but most especially biblical? We have learned from the book of Psalms because our ancient forefathers had the blessed faith to write them down for all who follow. What is even more impressive is that the psalms were written in metrical compositions in order to be sung in their gatherings of worship. Though singing is just most naturally a joyful exercise, we are told that the purpose of songs was to assist in memory as well as a joyful exercise. To meditate upon the Word of God as it has been determined is to learn to live in the ways of God our Creator. Our reading for today describes so beautifully how those of us who can live close to God will be very blest. Happy are those who do not follow those who live in sin, but their delight is living in the law of the Lord. This is called living in the wisdom the very giver of life has given to all who have learned to love as we are loved. Prayer Our Father God, the one who made us and who provides for a life filled with blessings, offer all that we can be used to teach others your heavenly blessings with the way we live.
