PSALM 23: The Lord is my Shepherd To be ACCOMPANIED and COMFORTED through grief is the ultimate blessing we can receive in life. And no where is this blessing more profoundly felt than in Haiti. When life deals us a difficult hand we seek the comfort of those around us. And because Haitian people have had their share of grief they are almost masters of eloquence in their ability to comfort and to say what needs to be said. And even people who are not Haitian, but who live in Haiti and have discovered and embraced the way of the Haitians are able to comfort in much the same manner. I was made more acutely aware of this during the past few days in Haiti, from acts I witnessed, words spoken and read and gestures that touched me deeply. From a week that started in celebration and ended at the other spectrum, I was made profoundly aware of the sacredness of life, of our need to be present for it all and grateful for all of the moments and for those souls and individuals who emerge from it all and light that path for us, making it just a little brighter and a little easier to navigate. The Lord is my Shepherd, I Shall not want. He makes me like down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters; He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord Forever
