PSALM 40: O Lord, teach us faith; teach us to trust wholly and eternally in You. You hear our cries and You will answer in favour toward us. Teach us, yes, show us how to be patient as we wait on You. Your benefits toward us many and will not fail. Help us, yeah, strengthen our hearts to trust You. "In many ways David frustrated God’s plans for his life, but he was good at waiting for God to fulfill His promise to give him the kingdom. He knew where to go when he faltered, when he was confused. He was quick to acknowledge the source of his success and to praise God for pardon. He knew God wanted his heart, not more sacrifices. Out of his mouth came the wonderful words prophesying the submission of Jesus to the Father’s will: “I delight to do Thy will, O my God; yea, Thy law is written within my heart.” Like Jesus, David was often accused of sins of which he was innocent. He felt surrounded by enemies even when among those who claimed to be his friends. At times David broke under the strain. Praise God! Jesus did not! Prayer: Look, Lord, I’m coming. Give me the same delight in doing your will that motivated Jesus in His life among men. I too am “poor and needy.” Please hurry to my help, but teach me to wait for You to solve my dilemma in Your way and to accept Your solution even if it is not what I had hoped for.
