PSALM 51 VERSE 7. PURGE ME WITH HYSSOP, AND I SHALL BE CLEAN: WASH ME, AND I SHALL BE WHITER THAN SNOW. The features and the activities of the early manis reflected here. In those primitive ages past, when there were no soaps, there were some kinds of herbs which the early men used to wash themselves and their aprons; they have ferns, a non-flowering plant found beside brooks: they have bitter leaves and the hyssop which the Psalmist mentioned. These species of herbs functioned as soap as they produced lathers while soak in water and the hyssop simultaneously functioned as sponge and soap. As a shepherd boy, wheneer David would cared for his livestocks, he would locate hyssop and fetch water in an earthenware receptacle and wash the animals with it. He knew the function of hyssop in cleansing the dirt and the dungs that had attached with the fleece of his livestocks, after carrying out this exercise, the animals become whiter: he therefore petitioned God to purge me with hyssop. The Lord ordered Moses to tell his people in Goshen to locate this lather producing herb, and told them to use it as a brush to put in the blood of the lamb and anoint their doorposts withal. And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip in the blood that is in the bason, and strike the lintel and the two sides posts with the blood that is in the bason: and none of you shall go out of his house until the morning, Exodus 12:22. More than the hyssop is here, and his name is Jesus! Let me ask you. Have you been to Jesus for that cleansing power? Are you washed in the blood of the lamb? Are you garment clean are they white as snow? Are you washed in blood of the lamb? It is imperative for each of us to go to Jesus for this cleansing process, our hands have been tinted with atrocities. He said, For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity. Isaiah 59:3. Of a truth, we have sinned against God nonetheless, he beckons to us as, though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. Isaiah 1:18. Crimson is the flower of a carpet grass, if touched, it tinted your fingers all the day long except you wash it thoroughly, whoever you shake hands with will also be affected. Without the shedding of blood, there would be no remission of sins: when our foreparents erred, the Lord shed the blood of an animal to waive their error. In the Levitical laws, the priests ordered animals to be brought based on the gravity and the degree of sins committed. Are you walking daily by the Saviours side? Are you washed in the blood of the lamb Do you rest each moment in the crucified? Or if the Bridegroom cometh will your robe be white? If your answer is yes, try to put more effort in your relationship with God. Lay aside the garment of sin And be washed in the blood of the lamb There is a fountain flowing for the souls unclean Oh be washed in the blood of the lamb! This clarion call is not changing. Let us go to Jesus for the cleansing power of his blood. But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. 1st Peter 1:19 slaughtered in Goshen and testified about by John. Let us attach the importance of the availability of this blood and wash our spirit, soul and body. All is well!
