PSALM cont. Today were going to consider only a couple verses from Psalm 22 but first let me preface it by saying that Psalm 22-24 go together. Psalm 22 - the king of Psalm 21is rejected by his Father; Psalm 23 - Jesus enters into death, trusting the Father; Psalm 24- the King in His glory is coming. Now lets look briefly at Psalm 22:1-2. My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Cross reference Matthew 27:46. Why art thou so far from helping me, from the words of my roaring? This is a question that echoes down through the ages and the answer touches each one of us, believer or not. Jesus made 7 statements from the cross, beginning with FATHER forgive them to It is finished, but sandwiched in between these two statements is this one. Make sure you see that Christ addresses the Father not as Father, but as my God. Why? Jesus prayed in the Garden: Let this cup pass from me, nevertheless, not my will but thine. The crucifixion? No- many were crucified. It was the Roman method of execution. Something else was going on here. Psalm 27:9 says prophetically (!and when Jesus read this He would have known it was talking about Him. Imagine sitting in on that Bible study!).: Hide not thy face from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation. Here we have the one of whom God , the Father said This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased hanging on a cross, asking God the Father why hes being rejected. This is the time when his soul is being made an offerings for sin. 2 Corinthians 5:21 -- For he hath MADE him to be SIN for us, who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. Thats the time Jesus BECAME sin and God the Father had to turn his back on his son because God cannot look upon sin. Ver se 2: O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season , and am not silent go with me to Luke 23:44-45: and it was about the sixth hour (daylight), and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. AND The sun darkened.............. . This was a darkness that coUld be felt like the plague in Egypt in Exodus 10:21. Jesus was experiencing the second death for us in this hour and season of darkness. Thats the death that is forever. He called on the adversary .....who will contend with me? Let us stand together: who is my adversary! Let him come near to me. Hes trash talking Satan - challenging him - saying come close and watch me beat you. Isaiah 10:8. So the answer to Christs question from the cross is verse 3-- But thou art holy......
