PUBLIC SAFETY & TRAFFIC NOTICE - Heres an ongoing weird one, folks. Share this post to help others avoid traffic jams! We have a traffic jam on Interstate 5 in both directions around Slater Road for two reasons: Reason 1: A stolen vehicle out of Whatcom County was spotted at the Ferndale Haggen parking lot with a driver inside. A chase ensued by the Ferndale Police Department and Whatcom County Sheriffs Deputies and it ended up on I-5. Because traffic was getting heavy, officers decided to end the pursuit. Basically right when that happened, however, the vehicle occupant pulled over and hopped the fence just south of Slater Road and ran eastbound through the woods off the Pacific Highway. This person was caught, but motorists are causing delays because they appear to be looking at the bright, shiny lights of law enforcement vehicles. Please be safe out there and keep your eye on the road! Both the freeway and Pacific Highway were clear, until ... Reason 2: Literally as this was being written, the Ferndale Police Department called us back to let us know that a vehicle accident occurred at the same spot - southbound at Slater Road -- in the median. That will now delay traffic further. If you can - find another way home.
